🌱 Inspiration

As our team looked at healthcare challenges, we realized how often seniors are left without consistent support. Many live alone, struggle with remembering medications or meals, and face emergencies without immediate help. Meanwhile, caregivers and doctors are stretched thin — managing fragmented data and limited visibility.

We wanted to create something that helps seniors live independently and safely, while giving caregivers peace of mind and doctors better insights. That vision became CareBridge — a seamless link between seniors, families, and healthcare providers.

⚙️ What It Does

CareBridge is an AI-powered smartwatch and app ecosystem that monitors seniors’ health and daily routines while keeping caregivers and doctors connected.

Wearable Watch: Tracks heart rate, movement, sleep, hygiene, and diet.

AI Health Summaries: Turns daily data into actionable reports for doctors.

OLED Display: Reminds seniors about tasks like medications or meals.

Red Alert System: Automatically notifies caregivers or emergency services when danger is detected.

App Dashboard: Allows caregivers to monitor trends and receive alerts in real time.

Emergency Buzzer: Can be manually triggered by the senior if they need immediate help.

All this — with no subscription fees, just an affordable, copay-covered device supported by ethical in-app ads.

🛠️ How We Built It

We designed CareBridge as a fully integrated health monitoring ecosystem.

Hardware: We prototyped a smartwatch capable of recording biological signals (heart rate, movement, sleep, diet, and hygiene).

Software: We developed a connected mobile app that receives and displays data through an AI backend, summarizing patterns for doctors and caregivers.

AI Integration: The AI model processes time-series data to predict risks and highlight anomalies:

Risk Score

𝑓 ( heart rate variability , activity , sleep quality , daily habits ) Risk Score=f(heart rate variability,activity,sleep quality,daily habits)

Connectivity: The app syncs all data in real time to generate daily summaries and emergency alerts.

🚧 Challenges We Ran Into

Defining the Problem: We initially struggled to pinpoint our focus. Healthcare is broad, and narrowing it to elderly care with practical impact took time and discussion.

Feature Overload: We had many ideas — from nutrition tracking to full caregiver networks. Choosing which features truly mattered for MVP coherence was challenging.

System Integration: Coordinating between hardware sensors, AI analytics, and app design was technically complex.

Ease of Use: Designing a device intuitive enough for seniors but advanced enough for medical insights required constant iteration.

Business Model Viability: We had to move away from subscriptions toward a free-with-ads model with insurance copay coverage to ensure accessibility.

🏅 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Developed a cohesive solution that addresses medical, emotional, and logistical challenges of elderly care.

Created a functional system architecture integrating wearable data, AI analysis, and caregiver interfaces.

Designed a sustainable business model that balances affordability and scalability.

Learned how to merge technical innovation with genuine human empathy — making tech feel caring.

🧠 What We Learned

This project taught us how to approach healthcare technology holistically. We learned:

The importance of user-centered design — especially when your users are seniors.

How to convert data into clear, actionable insights for both families and doctors.

The value of collaboration across disciplines — engineering, AI, and biosystems design.

That innovation means finding the balance between complexity and simplicity — building something powerful yet intuitive.

🚀 What’s Next for CareBridge

Our next steps:

Pilot Testing: Partner with senior care facilities to validate usability and data accuracy.

FDA-Aligned Certification: Begin compliance testing for health data safety and reliability.

Hardware Optimization: Refine the watch design for comfort, battery life, and sensor accuracy.

AI Enhancement: Improve predictive models for early detection of health risks.

Scaling & Partnerships: Collaborate with hospitals, insurers, and senior centers to bring CareBridge to market within the next year.

Ultimately, our mission is to make aging safe, connected, and dignified — because with CareBridge, no one should have to age alone.
