Inspiration

Calling customer support is painful, you have to navigate many options then wait on hold for some minutes, and it's frustrating. We realized that this could be solved easily if you could ask someone else to call and wait for you. So all you have to do is use your virtual assistants to do the work for you!

What it does

We used an Alexa/Google skill acting on your command which chooses the correct menu options and waits on hold until you reach a human service agent and then forwards the call to you.

How we planned on building it

For this hackathon, we built our pitch deck on Pitch but later on, we plan on building it using the Actions SDK and Alchemy Language tools for google assistant and AWS Lambda X for Alexa while using Dialogflow/ Twilio as our primary NLP model.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenge we faced before the hackathon was deciding on which track to submit to and whether or not to learn Actions SDK. During the hackathon, most of our team members were unaware of how a proposal track hackathon works, however, through helping each other, we were able to pull through. We also faced difficulty in scheduling as we all high schoolers living on opposite ends of the world. In the end, the challenges we faced didn't stop us from achieving our goal but rather made us stronger for future hackathons. It was difficult to get in touch and collaborate since our team is in opposite parts of the world; however, with strong communication, we were able to pull through and use our time wisely.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our visually appealing slide deck and clear idea of our product. We were able to connect our product with competitors, and use strengths from other companies to merge with our own ideas to solve a common problem for people, which all ties in with understanding user experience.

What we learned

  1. We learned how to collaboratively make a structured, concise pitch deck, identifying our problem, solution, future goals, and the impact we make with this proposal.
  2. We know way more about the ins and outs of Virtual Assistants like Alexa and Google.

What's next for CareAssist

We hope to actually develop the product using Actions SDK and Dialogflow post the hackathon. We also hope to tie up with the business to improve the consumer experience and add an "Estimated Wait Time" function which will allow customers to utilize their time productively while waiting for a human customer care agent to answer.
