Inspiration
We could see that the COVID-19 pandemic had brought the healthcare system to its knees with the increased volume of people calling emergency and medical information numbers. We could also see that there was plenty of misleading information online and that for most people this was the first source of information given the long waiting lines on the healthcare helplines. Today, people are also most accustomed to first look online due to easy accessibility. Further, it was no secret that there was a big lack of medical staff in hospitals.
Together with our founder, a clinician M.D., we, therefore, came up with a solution that consolidates all of these issues we are facing today by creating a triage system in the form of a chatbot.
What it does
Care19 Triages COVID-19 patients through an accurate and clinician validated system. It is Free of Charge and easy to integrate with any other online platform or communication channel. The system will be available in all official EU languages and minority languages. It also collects data from the users for future mapping of the outbreak and provides validated statistics about each EU country daily.
How we built it
Front End : Mobile Custom Template using Wordpress version 5.4 using php 7.0 Database : mysql 5.0 Hosting : AWS EC2 which can be scaled Third part API : Snatchbot ( Pro Version can handle up to 1.000.000 messages )
Challenges we ran into
Getting everything ready with the short deadline was a bit harder than we had first anticipated. Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have managed to build the platform, website, translated it to three languages, updated it with the latest information and made it user-friendly in a relatively short time.
What we learned
We found that the best solutions can be the ones that can help tackle the problem directly but should also include a long term purpose. We also learnt how intense time pressure can lead to other kinds of innovations.
What's next for Care19
We believe that the future potential of reaching out to a vast amount of people and ultimately assisting in saving real lives is high. We, therefore, believe that we can work further on the platform by translating it to all EU languages, further validate it, make better use of the data received, developing an app and much more.
