Inspiration

The idea for CareConnect came from a real problem we observed in India. Finding trusted and verified nurses for home care is often difficult, especially for elderly patients or people recovering from illness. While similar healthcare coordination systems exist in some foreign countries, there are very few accessible and organized platforms focused on this problem in India.

Another issue we noticed was the communication gap between nurses, patients, and family members. Guardians are not always physically present with the patient due to work or distance, which makes it difficult to stay updated about the patient’s condition.

We wanted to create a system where:

  • Patients can connect with verified nurses
  • Patients can book nurses based on their medical and caregiving needs
  • Nurses can accept or reject care requests depending on their availability
  • Nurses can manage patient care efficiently
  • Family members can monitor updates remotely in real time

The aim of CareConnect is to make healthcare monitoring more connected, transparent, and secure.

What CareConnect Does

CareConnect is a healthcare coordination platform designed for nurses, patients, and guardians.

The platform allows patients to:

  • Request and book nurses according to their requirements
  • Track booking status and nurse responses
  • Access health updates and vitals history

Nurses can:

  • Accept or reject patient care requests
  • Record patient vitals such as blood pressure, sugar levels, and SpO2
  • Maintain medication and care logs
  • Monitor assigned patients through a centralized dashboard

Patients and guardians can:

  • View real-time health updates
  • Track vitals history
  • Monitor ongoing care remotely
  • Stay informed about nurse observations and patient progress

The system also includes an AI-powered healthcare assistant that helps answer basic health-related questions.

Security and Verification Features

One of the important parts of CareConnect is trust and security.

To ensure patient safety:

  • Nurses are required to upload and verify their professional nursing certificates or degree documents before registration approval.
  • Patients are required to submit Aadhaar verification details for identity confirmation.

This helps ensure that only verified patients and certified nurses are part of the platform, creating a safer and more reliable healthcare environment.

How We Built It

The frontend was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a responsive and user-friendly interface.

The backend was built using Flask and Python for handling API routes, business logic, authentication, booking management, and AI integration.

Firebase Firestore was used for real-time database synchronization, allowing updates from nurses to instantly appear on patient and guardian dashboards.

Firebase Authentication was implemented for secure login and role-based access management.

The project architecture focused on real-time healthcare coordination and live monitoring.

A simplified representation of the patient risk scoring logic is:

$$ RiskScore = w_1(BP) + w_2(SpO_2) + w_3(SugarLevel) $$

where different health parameters contribute to the overall patient risk level.

Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was implementing real-time synchronization between multiple dashboards while maintaining smooth performance.

Another challenge was designing a secure authentication and verification system for different user roles such as nurses, patients, and guardians.

Managing nurse booking requests and handling request acceptance/rejection workflows was also challenging because it required proper role handling and live status updates.

We also faced difficulties in structuring healthcare data efficiently and integrating AI responses into the workflow in a meaningful way.

Designing a simple and accessible interface while handling multiple features was another important learning experience.

What We Learned

Through this project, we gained practical experience with:

  • Full-stack web development
  • Firebase Firestore and Authentication
  • Real-time database systems
  • Backend API development using Flask
  • AI integration in web applications
  • Role-based authentication and verification systems
  • Healthcare workflow management
  • Real-time booking and request handling systems

More importantly, we learned how technology can solve real-world healthcare accessibility and communication problems.

Future Improvements

In the future, we plan to add:

  • Wearable device integration
  • Emergency alert systems
  • Predictive health analytics
  • Video consultation support
  • Advanced AI-based patient risk prediction
  • Voice-enabled healthcare assistance

CareConnect is designed as a step toward building a smarter and more accessible healthcare ecosystem in India.
