Inspiration
For our Team, the healthcare industry is one that affects everyone, Being part of a healthcare hackathon means having the opportunity to work with others from diverse backgrounds and collaborate on innovative solutions to the challenges that exist within the system. One of the main inspirations for us to participate in a healthcare hackathon is the desire to make a positive impact on people's lives. Whether it's developing a Predicting Tool or creating an app that improves patient outcomes, We believe that using technology to create innovative solutions can have a tremendous impact on the healthcare industry.
What it does
Our team included individuals with expertise in healthcare, technology, design, entrepreneurship, and healthcare advocacy. By bringing together this diverse group of people, our team collaborated and leveraged their unique perspectives to create this project. Additionally, effective communication, leadership, and organization are essential to ensure that the hackathon runs smoothly and achieves its goals. Through this collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, healthcare hackathons can drive meaningful change in the healthcare industry.
How we built it
Care Bridge was developed by leveraging data from hybrid data scraping process, including semi-synthetic data. Through this data, we created and trained a Machine Learning model using a collaborative and content-based filtering approach. The model was designed to recommend the best available healthcare providers in the patients' local area, providing them with personalized and convenient options.
Challenges we ran into
During the development of our project, we encountered a challenge in integrating the Machine Learning model into a functional API and connecting it to the front-end. To overcome this hurdle, we dedicated an entire night to learning how to use Flask and React to create our own API and Front-End Development. We then used Postman to test the API and developed a front-end interface to complement the API. Ultimately, we succeeded in deploying the project successfully, overcoming the obstacle and achieving our goals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
As students from the business school, we are thrilled to have overcome numerous challenges and successfully created a functional prototype at the AXXESS Healthcare hackathon. Despite having no prior experience, we were able to develop a front-end interface from scratch and seamlessly integrate our model into an API. Through perseverance and hard work, we were able to achieve a fully functional project.
What we learned
Participating in a healthcare hackathon can teach valuable skills, such as collaboration, innovation, user-centered design, time management, and prioritization. It provides an opportunity to work with others from diverse backgrounds and develop new and innovative solutions to healthcare challenges. Apart from that we gained a lot of technical insights along with business outcomes into creating a working prototype in under 30 Hours.
What's next for Care Bridge
A cloud-based machine learning model for CareBridge can process large amounts of data quickly and efficiently, leading to better patient outcomes. It can continuously learn and improve over time, leading to more accurate and personalized care. It also paves the way for more advanced technologies in healthcare.
