Inspiration
The gap between experiencing your health and understanding it is one of the most critical spaces in modern medicine. Patients often track numbers—like blood pressure—without understanding what they actually mean or how they compound into cardiovascular risks.
I wanted to build a clinical decision-support tool that takes the guesswork out of patient screening. My goal was to create a full-stack dashboard where a healthcare worker or individual could enter raw physiological data and instantly receive structural clinical classifications, statistical risk metrics, and personalized, AI-driven lifestyle recommendations
The Core Medical Logic & Math
To make the application robust, the backend logic evaluates two primary metrics: Blood Pressure Classification and a compound Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Score.
- Blood Pressure Classification The application maps systolic ($S$) and diastolic ($D$) blood pressure inputs to strict clinical thresholds: Normal: $S < 120 \text{ and } D < 80$Elevated: $120 \le S \le 129 \text{ and } D < 80$ Stage 1 Hypertension: $130 \le S \le 139 \text{ or } 80 \le D \le 89$ Stage 2 Hypertension: $S \ge 140 \text{ or } D \ge 90$
- Cardiovascular Risk Calculation The overall cardiovascular risk score ($R$) aggregates individual risk coefficients. Let the base risk be determined by a weighted combination of age ($A$), smoking status ($Sm \in {0, 1}$), diabetes status ($Db \in {0, 1}$), and the presence of severe Stage 2 Hypertension ($H_{stage2} \in {0, 1}$): $$R_{\text{score}} = w_1(A > 50) + w_2(Sm) + w_3(Db) + w_4(H_{stage2})$$ Where weights are distributed based on standard epidemiological data. If the normalized $R_{\text{score}} \ge 0.75$, the app triggers a High Risk (Red) visual alert, indicating urgent lifestyle or clinical intervention is required. ## What it does The CardioRisk Analyzer is a full-stack clinical decision-support tool that transforms raw health numbers into instant, actionable medical insights. It acts as a digital assistant for healthcare workers or health-conscious individuals to quickly assess heart health risks. Here is exactly what the application does: Processes Core Health Metrics: Users enter essential patient data, including Age, Gender, Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure, Smoking Status, and Diabetes Status. Instant Clinical Classification: The app automatically runs the inputs through standard medical guidelines to classify blood pressure into four clear stages (Normal, Elevated, Stage 1 Hypertension, or Stage 2 Hypertension). Color-Coded Visual Alerts: It instantly updates a dynamic results card with a specific color alert (Green, Yellow, Orange, or Red) based on severity, allowing for immediate triage. AI-Generated Medical Summaries: Using an integrated LLM plugin, the app reads the patient’s calculated risk level and writes a friendly, personalized 3-sentence lifestyle and wellness recommendation. Doctor-Ready Report Exports: With a single click of the "Export Report" button, the app uses a document generation plugin to compile the patient's data into a beautifully formatted, downloadable PDF report that they can take directly to their physician. Automated Patient Logs: Every assessment is securely saved to a built-in historical database, allowing users to track, search, and view blood pressure trends over time. ## How we built it I built the CardioRisk Analyzer using the MeDo AI-powered platform. Instead of spending days writing boilerplate code, I structured my development process into three main natural language blueprints: Scaffolding & Architecture: I prompted MeDo to generate a full-stack responsive web application. It built a three-part user interface: a clinical data input form, a real-time reactive results card, and an automated history log. Database & Persistence: MeDo automatically configured a persistent database on the backend to log every patient submission, allowing for timeline tracking without requiring manual SQL management. Plugin Integration: I extended the core functionality of the app by activating two high-value MeDo plugins: LLM Content Plugin: Connected directly to the backend calculation engine to read the generated risk score and synthesize a tailored, three-sentence clinical lifestyle recommendation. Document Generation Plugin: Programmed into an "Export Report" button that compiles patient data into a downloadable, doctor-ready PDF. ## Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge came from traditional development bottlenecks. Before moving to MeDo, I spent hours fighting cloud configuration problems, CORS policy blocks, and server port-binding issues ($10000 \neq 80$) while trying to host a manual Python FastAPI setup on a virtual server instance. The deployment environment loop kept shutting down the service, preventing the dashboard from validating the application handshake. Moving to MeDo changed the entire game. It completely abstracted away the devops infrastructure and allowed me to focus purely on the application's clinical logic and user experience. It handled the database wiring and provided a single-click deployment to a public URL seamlessly. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of Pivot to Success: We are incredibly proud of our ability to quickly pivot. After spending hours battling traditional cloud deployment loops, port conflicts, and server-side handshake errors on a manual setup, we adapted, moved the architecture to MeDo, and built a superior full-stack app in a fraction of the time. Zero-Code Full-Stack Integration: We successfully wired a dynamic frontend form to a complex mathematical backend and a persistent database, creating a seamless user experience purely through natural language engineering. Smart Plugin Mastery: We successfully implemented and synced two distinct AI capabilities: an LLM plugin that translates raw data numbers into empathetic patient advice, and a PDF compilation engine that generates physical, doctor-ready medical documents. Flawless Logic Execution: We successfully programmed strict clinical thresholds into the AI engine, ensuring the app accurately flags critical situations (like Stage 2 Hypertension) with reliable, color-coded visual alerts on the first try. Creating a High-Impact Utility: We didn't just build a generic template; we built a meaningful, practical tool that addresses real-world global health screening challenges and handles sensitive patient workflow flows securely and elegantly. ## What we learned This project taught me that the prompt is the product. Building with AI platforms doesn't mean developer logic isn't required; it means your logic shifts from syntax debugging to precise structural design. I learned how to cleanly isolate front-end requirements from backend mathematical evaluations while utilizing AI plugins to handle natural-language generation and document compilation efficiently. ## What's next for CardioRisk Analyzer (TechWithAb Suite) Looking ahead, we plan to evolve the CardioRisk Analyzer from a smart screening dashboard into a comprehensive, interconnected digital health ecosystem. Here is our roadmap for the future: Wearable IoT Integrations: We plan to integrate plugins that can fetch real-time health telemetry directly from smartwatches and continuous blood pressure monitors, eliminating the need for manual data entry. Advanced Epidemiological Models: We aim to upgrade the risk calculation engine from basic weighted logic to validated global medical standards, such as the Framingham Risk Score and the WHO Cardiovascular Disease risk charts using more granular patient biomarkers (like cholesterol and BMI). Multi-Language Support: To maximize accessibility in regional clinics and diverse communities, we plan to leverage MeDo’s localization capabilities to offer the interface and AI lifestyle recommendations in multiple local languages, including Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. Clinic Dashboard & Patient Portals: We want to expand the single-user view into a dual-portal system where healthcare providers can securely manage and monitor an entire directory of patients from a centralized, collaborative workstation. TechWithAb Video Series: We will launch a dedicated content series breaking down how modern developers can use MeDo to build zero-infrastructure health-tech applications, inspiring the next wave of creators to build impactful software.
