Inspiration

  • Heart disease can have immediate risks, not only during pregnancy, but especially after, causing life-long health concerns.
  • 60% of maternal deaths occur after a mom leaves the hospital.
  • 42% of new moms experience isolation and loneliness, which is the strongest predictor of postpartum depression and crisis. This is where our app CardiMom steps in.

What it does

  • Take daily surveys to monitor physical symptoms and mental wellbeing over time to identify potential cardiovascular warning signs and recommend appropriate next steps in seeking medical care, while getting rewarded with points for checking in
  • Access a personalized resources hub recommends relevant educational content, support resources, and emergency contacts based on survey results, while getting rewarded with points for staying informed
  • Connect with other mothers in similar stages of pregnancy or postpartum for support and combatting loneliness
  • Earn points through a rewards system for engagement with the app, which can be used to earn gifts for themselves and their baby

How we built it

  • Figma for prototyping
  • SQL database + Python in backend
  • FastAPI to connect backend to frontend
  • React-Native for front end

Challenges we ran into

  • Getting set up
  • Not enough backend knowledge

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Our overall app idea - especially the reward system!
  • Pushing through to the end :)

What we learned

  • Everything.. it was all of our first time making a mobile app

What's next for CardiMom

  • Incorporate an AI model to process quiz results
