Inspiration
We have noticed a pain. This pain is caused from busier lives and more convenient technology. Theses causes force us as humans to behave more sedentary. 2016 is the highest obesity rate has been in the US. People are being less active then ever before. Our goal is to make intense workouts fun again!
What it does
This is a competitive heart rate game where it motivates you to keep your heart rate above your resting hear rate for a certain amount of time. By doing this you trigger a notification on your friends phone/wearable device. The friend has to match your challenge or face defeat.
How I built it
We are building this using wearable and mobile technology. We mostly used java but there is some C# as well.
Challenges I ran into
Our lack of hardware at the Hackathon made it hard to implement the demo we wanted. We wanted to use the pebble's, but realized that the older version does not have HR tracking yet. This shows that now is better then ever before to implement a technology like this. This technology is finally reaching to the hands of consumers. Waterproof devices are getting made this year. Now is better then ever before to make this work.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to validate our idea. This idea has existed to us for a while.. but it was hard to know if it could be successful. After doing much research we were able to discover that the time and need for this problem is now.
What I learned
We learned how to find information very well. We learned more about resting heart rate and what it means to have a slow heart beat. We were able to learn more about how the heart functions as well as how we can improve someones cardiovascular health!
What's next for Cardiac Traveler
We want to take and implement this for Games4health. After that we want to keep in contact with the cardiologists that we have been talking to work out a good HR algorithm to create a competitive experience. After that we can go a strong user design phase! We have a power-point presentation but do not know how to upload it!
