Inspiration

Every agent either just talks, or does things you can’t see and can’t stop. We wanted one that does real work in the open and leaves every decision that costs money to you.

What it does

You type a goal. Cardea plans it, runs the steps in parallel in real browsers you can watch, and comes back with real prices. Anything that spends, sends, or signs stops and asks you. ChatGPT can drive the whole thing through 13 WebMCP tools.

How we built it

Next.js on Vercel. Supabase for an append-only mission log. Inngest for durable runs that pause on approval and resume. Cloudflare for real headless Chrome streamed onto the canvas. GPT-5.6 for planning. Shopify’s agent protocol for real carts. 890 tests.

Challenges we ran into

Big retailers served bot walls, so we made Cardea say “this site blocked me” instead of inventing prices. We built an enforced approval gate, it broke in the real ChatGPT browser, and we pulled it the same hour. ChatGPT preferred its own browser over ours until our tool descriptions said when to use them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It runs end to end on real websites and ends on a real cart. It admits what it couldn’t verify. We tested the tools in ChatGPT itself, not just our own harness.

What we learned

Test where you’ll be judged. Measure before you fix. The agent and the human have to see the same thing, or it’s theater.

What's next for Cardea

Enforce approvals in the browser, carts from any store, more connected apps, and a real mobile view.
