Since the novel coronavirus outbreak, all the industries are shut down except essential services like food. But even then, there is not much variety in vegetables grown in Europe required to have a balanced diet. Mushrooms are very nutrient-rich and boost our physical as well as mental health. Europe imports mushrooms from China and India. But due to the current situation, all international transit networks are blocked. In spite of that, people can grow mushrooms in their homes with nothing but some mushroom seeds(spawns), corrugated sheets, plastic bag/box and water.

When an online delivery is received in a corrugated box along with a plastic bag, there is no use of it afterwards except recycling. By implementing our solution, these products will be used again before going into the trash as well as yield fresh edible mushrooms.

We can write proper instructions for growing mushrooms inside the boxes or we can attach them externally as well. The mushroom seeds(spawn) which will be wrapped will be provided inside the boxes. The spawn has a shelf life of two weeks and it doesn't take more than a week for standard delivery.

We were unsure if Smurfit Kappa can modify there packaging for such application legally, but we were assured by Yuttana Chiaravalloti that they can try to make it possible.

We got to know about how the hackathons work, and also how other people approach the given problem statements and derive their solutions.

We believe people will endure growing their own mushrooms across Europe as well as in other regions even after the pandemic is over.
