An app that magically picks the cards you want
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. Clarke
Remember when we were children? We believed in Santa Clause, in tooth fairies and fairy god mothers. We were full of wonder. Small things, little things, would amaze us and make us happy. Everyone wanted to believe in magic. Then they grew up.
Day by day, as people are more and more well informed, that very knowledge, has a tendency of taking away the pleasure from the small things in life.
As a child, I found great joy in magic. My dad taught me the simple trick of making a coin vanish by dropping it up my sleeve. I found happiness in performing that act. The adults would humour me by acting impressed with my feat and that would make me happy.
Then I discovered card tricks. What a joy they were! My favourite was the 21 card trick where you asked a spectator to pick a card and then, by mathematically subdividing the pack thrice, you would produce the card that they had chosen.
These days, I see more kids playing games on the iPad than pottering about with a pack of cards or a few coins trying to do magic.
So, I thought, I would bring you and your family a simple app that will make you magicians. Hopefully, you and your kids will find as much joy in magic as I did in my childhood.
How do I use this app?
If you watch the video, you will see me doing a simple trick. Ideally, you would ask someone to pick a card, show it to someone and then place it on the phone screen. Someone who has seen the card, would set the card on the Gear watch. And then, hey presto, the card will magically appear on the phone screen!
As with any magic trick, the real magic lies in your performance. You have to convince your spectators that it really is magic. What I have shown in the video is just one embodiment of a magic trick using this app. I am sure, if you think about it, you will discover many ways to use this app to create magic.
If people like and enjoy this app, there are a whole bunch of apps that can be created do all sort of magic tricks. It would not be a far stretch of the imagination to think that people would be willing to pay a small price for these tricks.
As the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. If people like and enjoy this app, this would be a niche of apps worth pursuing.
This app was made in 3 days. A lot of small little apps can be made that cater to an such an audience (if it exists).
