Inspiration
The inspiration for this project arose from the ever-prominent problem of climate change, and the need to provide people with factual data about their carbon footprint
What it does
This project tracks the daily activities of a user and, based on scientific data, calculates the carbon emission / reduction that were either a direct or indirect consequence of the user's chosen activity.
How we built it
We built it using the industry standard MERN stack: MongoDB, Node.js, Express, React.js
Challenges we ran into
Being a small team of 2 developers, it was hard to find extensive data for carbon emissions based on the actions of an individual, but that is a problem which would be easily solved if more time wasn't such a scarce resource
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a platform that allows people to see how exactly their personal choices affect the climate change crisis
What we learned
We learned a lot about teamwork, collaboration, and data research
What's next for CarbonTracker
We believe CarbonTracker could have a genuine future, if a little more time is dedicated for the integration of data
