Inspiration

The average person doesn't really care about sustainability unless there's something in it for them. That's why we built CarbonIQ. The incentive based sustainability app, where you earn Solana staking rewards by being a more environmentally responsible and sustainable human being.

What It Does

CarbonIQ is a wallet-based sustainability app that converts transaction history into emissions insights and a persistent Green Score that influences staking earnings.

Users can upload their own transaction files or use demo datasets, then view categorized CO2 emission analysis and personalized lower-emission swap suggestions.

That score drives staking behavior, including APY boosts, staking simulations, and live stake/collect/withdraw flows on Solana devnet.

The backend also supports carbon offset execution and records proof-of-impact on-chain through an Anchor program while storing wallet history in MongoDB.

The frontend brings this together across Dashboard, Staking, Swaps, and Leaderboard views so users can track both footprint and incentives in one place.

How We Built It

We started by getting an initial frontend concept running in React and edited that until we liked how it looked.

Then we split backend development into two tracks: Solana blockchain features (staking, withdrawals, and wallet connections) and core backend logic (LLM usage, Green Score calculation, and API setup).

We used TypeScript across almost the entire stack so the frontend and backend stayed aligned. For on-chain integration, we used Rust with Solana/Anchor where needed.

Challenges We Ran Into

We initially had an idea that used edge AI that we really liked, but the Raspberry Pi we were given didn't work so we had to pivot. Coming up with a new idea also took so much time. Overall, we felt that we were super behind.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

After having to pivot so many times, wasting a lot of our time trying to solve hardware issues that were out of our control, and coming up with a new idea to being able to create a product that (we think) is unique is such a good feeling.
