Inspiration

Our inspiration came directly from the challenge facing CarbonCapture Innovations: they have groundbreaking technology to capture CO₂, but "struggle with what to do with the captured carbon". We wanted to build the solution that unlocks the economic value of their technology, turning a climate solution from a costly liability into a profitable asset and helping them scale their positive impact.

What it does

CarbonFlow is an intelligent B2B marketplace that connects CO₂ producers with consumers. It uses an AI-powered consultant to analyze and rank potential partnerships with a detailed justification, generate financial and environmental impact reports for any match, and allow users to save and compare their best opportunities in a dedicated watchlist.

How we built it

We built a full-stack application with a responsive frontend using React and Vite, and a robust REST API using Python and Flask. The core intelligence is powered by the Azure OpenAI Service for strategic analysis, with data visualized on an interactive Leaflet map. For the MVP, we used a JSON flat-file database.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was ensuring the reliability of our complex AI analysis. We re-architected our backend from a single, massive API request to multiple, smaller, and more robust requests to ensure stability. We also navigated significant dependency conflicts (like the openai v1.0 migration) and performed a major UI refactoring mid-hackathon to create a more intuitive multi-page user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of building a feature-complete, full-stack application in a single weekend. Our greatest accomplishment is the sophisticated AI implementation, which goes beyond simple data retrieval to provide genuine strategic business analysis, and delivering a polished, stable, and professional user experience from the landing page to the final report.

What we learned

We learned how to engineer complex prompts for structured JSON output, how to build "graceful fallback" systems when working with external APIs, and the critical importance of balancing new features with stability under a deadline.

What's next for CarbonFlow - Carbon Capture Marketplace

Our vision for CarbonFlow is to evolve it into a full production platform. The next steps are to integrate real-time data feeds from sources like the EPA, build out a secure multi-tenant user account system with company-specific profiles.
