Inspiration
When it comes to sustainability and energy efficiency practices, we often emphasize individual actions like turning off lights when not in use, or limiting AC. However, the larger impact is created by commercial businesses and transportation. Knowing this, we aimed to create a solution that provides alternatives and increases energy efficiency to the benefit of the environment.
What it does
Our site allows business property managers in Texas to input their company details so we can provide them with customized energy solutions to help them consider energy transitioning at the benefit of their company.
How we built it
We build the website using the web builder Wix. The code was made using the Java language, and the code is linked at the bottom.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge for us was deciding on an idea. The potential solutions for increasing energy efficiency covers such a wide scope that we had trouble deciding on a single idea to focus on. This is because there are so many factors that go into the way we consume energy, and we needed to focus on only a few of the factors that we found to be the most significant.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy with the fact that we did complete the goals we had for this project. We aimed to provide qualitative solutions and we did just that- albeit slightly rudimentarily. In the end, we accomplished setting up a functioning website with code that works. In addition, we not only learned to build up our project, but also each other in the process. The teamwork and the experiences were worth the struggle.
What we learned
We learned how to make compromises and our answer scopes more precise. In addition, we learned how to improve our line of logic with the reasoning so we could attain determining answers from the user to create more custom answers not only based on the size of the company.
What's next for CarbonEasy
Because our group consisted of beginner coders, we did not have the skills we needed to code our own website from scratch. The next step for us would be to further improve our skills in order to make our website more user friendly and readable, which would improve its aesthetics.
