🌍 Inspiration

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. We wanted to create a solution that not only monitors carbon emissions but also turns pollution into something valuable. The idea of converting CO₂ into energy for crypto mining — and recording everything transparently on a blockchain — inspired us to merge green technology with Web3 innovation. ⚡ What it does

CarbonChain connects IoT carbon sensors with a Web3 platform built on the Polkadot blockchain. Use Westend Testnet wallet from Chrome extension >> download Subwallet extension

It measures carbon dioxide in the air, sends that data to the blockchain, and converts captured carbon into renewable energy that powers eco-friendly crypto mining. The website serves as a decentralized dashboard for tracking:

🛠️ How we built it

We built the platform using:

Polkadot for blockchain interoperability and scalability

Substrate + Ink! for smart contracts

React + Polkadot.js for the front-end Web3 interface

IPFS for decentralized data storage

IoT hardware prototypes with CO₂ sensors connected via a Web3 oracle bridge

All environmental data and energy conversion records are stored and verified on-chain to ensure transparency and traceability.

Integrating real-world IoT data with on-chain storage in a secure and efficient way

Designing a token model that balances mining incentives with environmental goals

Ensuring data integrity from sensors to blockchain without latency or tampering

Building a user-friendly Web3 dashboard for non-technical users

📚 What we learned

We learned how to bridge physical environmental systems with digital blockchain ecosystems, and how Web3 infrastructure like Polkadot can enable real-time environmental data transparency. We also gained experience in combining hardware innovation with decentralized finance models to create real-world impact.

🚀 What's next for CarbonChain

Next, we plan to:

Expand the IoT network with more advanced carbon sensors

Launch the CET token officially on Polkadot

Partner with green energy providers and carbon offset programs

Develop a mobile version of the Web3 dashboard

Introduce AI analytics to predict carbon emission trends

Climate change report.

Our ultimate goal is to make CarbonChain the leading Web3 platform for carbon economy and clean energy innovation — transforming environmental responsibility into economic opportunity.
