I was at Oculus connect exactly when I saw Greta's video about climate change and realized we could use immersive fun technology to motivate people to change their behavior and reduce their carbon footprint.
What it does
With Carbon0 players learn from cute AR creatures (we are calling them Zerons) about basic daily actions they can do to help reduce their carbon footprint. Players are motivated to take a pledge to do one of these actions and then share with friends.
How I built it
We are a team with a data analyst that helped choose the most impactful daily changes a person can do to reduce their footprint, a graphic designer who created cute 3d AR creatures related to these daily activities and a developer who created the filter in Spark AR we even have a musician that created music for the effect.
Challenges I ran into
In the first attempt to build the project it was working on the simulator but the tap on object function wasn't working on the build itself. I recreated the project using the world object spark template and it worked.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The AR creatures look really cute and we are excited for people to play with AR filters that will motivate them to take action around climate change in a fun optimistic way.
What I learned
I learned the Spark AR patch editor is really great for creating interactive experiences and that there are many sample projects in Spark AR that make it easy to start creating.
What's next for Carbon0
We want to add more AR creatures connected to daily activities to reduce carbon footprint and are hoping to launch our own location based AR game at some point.
