Inspiration

Climate change has been receiving more and more attention over the years, both in terms of news coverage and social media. However, we wanted to investigate whether this attention occurs in areas where most carbon emissions are generated.

What it does

We visualize data on carbon emissions and tweets about climate change across the United States to understand the underlying trends. It is a common perception that people who feel strongly about a certain issue work towards its betterment. We want to see if there exists a pattern in this perception and weed out all confounding factors.

How we built it

We used Twitter's API to generate a list of recent tweets about climate change. We cleaned the data for location information and k-n-n to cluster all the datapoints. This dataset is superimposed with the CO2 emissions from the regions on the map of America. Using this visualization we try to understand the data.
