Inspiration

The Goal of the team: To develop an application to get people involved in changing what needs to change. Believing that every little thing counts for taking a big step for a better world for the next generation. A Carbon Footprint is Defined As: The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). Your carbon footprint is the sum of all emissions of CO2 (carbon dioxide), which were induced by your activities in a given time frame which by exceeding a certain amount, it can cause climate change and other harms to our environment, Now imagine how much examining one’s life can help in a country like China that some people still use coal stoves, or for a family with a wrong attitude towards environment, or maybe a farmer who uses a lot of engines daily would change everything.

What it does

About our app: This application is targeting individuals to examine their carbon footprint in a 1-month period. Because of shortage of time we preferred to keep our idea as simple as possible, we eliminated some secondary factors that count towards an individual carbon footprint and just took the major factors in the account, including keep tracking of information on gas, energy, transportation etc. of the user. Using this information, the app calculates the individuals carbon footprint, compares it with data collected from other users and compares it with the desired carbon footprint of a person in this period and notifies the user of how green they are living. The data also gets stored for further studies. This app also provides the user with information about how to reduce their carbon footprint , for instance introducing local farms, organic products and stores, linking the user to donation companies that help environment, helps to know ,how to produce your own organic products etc. Our next step The next step for our app would be introducing and suggesting more environment friendly products to the user and encouraging them to use them instead of the other versions they use, by offering deals that encourage them. Let’s say if a user mows the lawn with type X of a mowing machine which produces more CO2, by introducing type Y which makes less carbon and informing them about the benefits and maybe the better deals they can get by switching to this type, we can encourage them to live greener. By adding this option, we can even get companies and manufacturers to use better machines and reduce the carbon footprint. This app can be a lot more than what it is, it can be used by the government to keep track of how green the people are living and try to change it for better.
