Inspiration
this year, climate issues firmly established themselves at the forefront of public consciousness. they come as a direct consequence of human action, most notably through the carbon emissions we produce in our daily lives. we realized that we could be significantly more climate-conscious by paying just a few moments more attention to our everyday activities — and what could be more routine than food?
What it does
Carbon foodprint allows users to input their meals into the app to get an accurate reading of their carbon footprint generated from their food consumption. From there, the app provides recommendations to users to switch foods out to reduce their carbon footprint.
How I built it
We built this app using Android Studio and Java.
Challenges I ran into and what I learned
Through this hackathon, we learned to be persistent. We faced many challenges during these past few hours. From small ones like having trouble downloading files to large ones like losing all our code with just 12 hours left to submission. From this, we learned to tackle these problems as a team and celebrating others along the way.
What's next for carbon foodprint
Moving forward, we envision carbon foodprint to be something much bigger than a hackathon project. We plan to make this app a part of everyone's daily lives. We believe that together, the climate crisis can be tackled!
