Inspiration
Facebook and our love for the environment.
What it does
It calculates the carbon footprint and compares it to the community. It also allows those to post volunteering opportunities for others to see.
How we built it
Held by a Flask Backend, we implemented javascript objects and html and css for the front-end, the UI implements concepts such as the Golden Ratio and white space.
Challenges we ran into
Javascript was a new subject for a lot of us. However, we took it upon ourselves to learn complex graphs and object oriented programming. One particular challenge was databases in Javascript. It was a new subject for all of us and we spent too much time trying to learn it and we couldn't implement it into our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The beautiful graphs we created and the UI skills implemented.
What we learned
JavaScript: syntax, databasing, object oriented programming, functions; Python: Flask API; HTML: divs, parents, css design, etc.
What's next for Carbon Emissions Reduction Program
Interactive graphs and working databases allowing the user's submissions to change the graph in real time.
