Inspiration

Our inspiration for this program comes from ACL's green initiative. After ideating for many hours, it came to our attention that ACL prioritizes a green earth. This is what urged us to create Carbon Clone.

What it does

Our program tracks the user's carbon footprint based on multiple parameters that the user can decide and compares it to the global average and the recommended value. You can then create clones of yourself and implement different simulations you want to pursue in the future. You can create multiple of these clones and each stores its own data which the user can decide. Additionally, the program gives the user recommendations on what simulations they should run based on the goals that the user wants to accomplish.

How we built it

First we researched mathematical formulas and created a base code in Intellij using user inputs. With these inputs, the base code compared it to the global average and calculated a percentage in which the user falls. Using this base code, we implemented an AI software named Lovable which helped beautify the code and transform it into a useable website. Lastly, we transported this to Intellij and used TypeScript to add more uses to our program like having a goal method that takes in user input and provides the best lifestyle's changes to accomplish the goal.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge that we ran into was that our inexperience with Java graphics was far to large and we were not able to develop a sleek UI just on the intelliJ IDE. So we decided to make the lateral switch over to TypeScript and HTML including the implementation of AI tools to make the frontend of our program look good. Another challenge that we faced was in the ideation stage. This was the most time consuming problem because we wanted to have an impactful idea but also with a fun aspect to it. First, we created an idea that clones patients and allowed the user to cure their symptoms, however, we thought that it was quite a dull and boring project. Another idea we created was a parallel golf game, but the impact was not there. Finally, we reached the best of both worlds with our idea of the CarbonClone. It was both impactful and fun, so we decided to pursue it. The way we reached this innovative solution was through hours of brainstorming and searching for problems around our community

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first Hackathon, so in general, we are proud of creating a functional website with an actual purpose. Creating this website needed hours of research and implementation, so we are proud of every single aspect.

What we learned

We learned how to create API key's and also how to use different IDE's and languages to cater to our needs.

What's next for Carbon Clone

Instead of focusing purely on the carbon emissions of the user, we would like to shift our goals to health related problem like their daily vitals based on their activities.
