Problem

A carbon footprint is a total amount of greenhouse gasses (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) that are generated by our daily actions, assets, and activities. This usually consists of a holistic analysis of factors such as type of energy, choice of transportation, diet, and household energy. According to a study by Riebeek Holli of NASA, this footprint has risen close to 33 percent in the last 25 years alone, 75 percent of which was carbon dioxide.

What it does

Often, it may be hard to quantify exactly how much we as individuals contribute to this statistic. Hence, this web application was created in order to develop an understanding of the problem and based on a set of given parameters, to provide insights on how the user can reduce their footprint. Takes username and password, specific parameters, and provides insights on how users can reduce their footprint

How we built it

Used HTML + CSS for front-end, Flask + Python + mongoDB for backend

Challenges we ran into

Ran into multiple linking issues, using VSCode's live share (first time using VSCode)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first hackathon, and we are happy that we were able to submit even a functioning app.

What we learned

Learned how to integrate username and password authentication, parse data, and use CSS styling.

What's next for Carbon Capture

Location-specific insights, make the insights more personalized using categories and set of conditions. In addition, would like to utilize ML/Data Science to create interactive graphs of our data.
