Inspiration
We were inspired to create this project by the increasing threat of climate change on our society. We believe that if people were more informed about the impact their decisions have on the world, they would behave in a more altruistic manner.
What it does
This webpage uses the Carbon Interface API to estimate people's monthly carbon production.
How we built it
We used Flask as a backend and Vue as a frontend. We ran these servers locally.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with the frameworks we used because we switched at the last minute to frameworks we were less familiar with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our ability to learn the surface of new frameworks and languages within the time constraint. This was a great opportunity to learn new technologies.
What we learned
We have become much more comfortable with web development during this hackathon due to the scope of our project. We were forced to learn many basic aspects of all of the technologies we used.
What's next for Carbon Calculator
Carbon Calculator will likely be retired. Despite the work we put into it, the code became unruly and impossible to manage by the end. The only way it could be reasonably continued would involve a complete rewrite.
