Inspiration

In the modern world where pollution is growing day by day, it is very important to know how much carbon footprint we are leaving everyday in our daily life, so for that I built CarbF.

What it does

CarbF is designed to accurately measure your carbon footprint by analyzing key contributors, including electricity usage, air travel, and automobile emissions..

How I built it

I used html, css and bootstrap in the design part and Javascript to give it functionality. Created a home page then link three different html pages for three different calculations. I used carbonsutra api for calculating carbonfootprint. In the Flight Impact section I have given option to searach flight destinations using keyword search and in the Car emmision section I have given option to search car by name and model number. And finally I used Spline for the loading animation.

Challenges I ran into

In the flight section api request were called for every letter and the page was slowing down, So I had to figure out some efficient ways to minimize the api calls so in that time I learned about debounce function and used it in the Car name search also.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my first hackathon, I was little bit nervous when I participated. But now when I completed this project I'm very proud of myself that I've built something that is going to impact and help the people.

What I learned

I learned about how to use apis better, also learned about a design tool - spline which gives a modern look in the website. And mainly I learned new things about the carbon emission.

What's next for CarbF

Later I will integrate Ai in it so that it can provide individual solutions to users based on their carbon footprint. Also I will link a database to it so that users can track their carbon footprints.
