Inspiration
Our inspiration for Caravan comes from our group's own personal experience, both through Covid-19 and beyond. It can be difficult to find ways to interact with our peers and meet new people, and so our mission with Caravan is to make finding events and interest groups easier for us to find.
What it does
Caravan displays a list of nearby events and interest groups, with some information about said event, such as the time/date, and also allows for users to add their own events. All this information is sent to our node server and saved in a database.
How we built it
Caravan is built with a MERN stack (Mongo.db, Express, React, Node.js)
Challenges we ran into
Time was our biggest constraint, but we ran into a lot of environment issues with Express. We didn't have a ton of collective experience making full stack projects on this level, so we really had to learn as we went.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite our lack of experience working with a MERN stack we were able to conquer majority of the features we set out to add
What we learned
We learned how to use the frameworks, and how to get them working seamlessly together in a full stack environment. We learned some basic dev ops and also did some pair programming which we did not have much experience with prior to this weekend.
What's next for Caravan
Down the road, Caravan would be a much more full-featured application, offering both private and public events, directions to the events in our built in map, and a login system for storing users and their events.
