Car Less

Inspiration

The inspiration for our project is based on the successful game Pokemon GO. As students, many of us commute to school daily. which inspired us to do something productive on the bus.

What it does

Our app encourages people to take public transportation over car travel through a gamification process.

How we built it

We built this using flutter as it is a safe framework that does not break and is able to run cross platforms from one code base. We used APIs such as Places API, Geolocation API, Directions API, Service Usage API, and Maps SDK.

Challenges we ran into

The challenge that we ran into was learning a new framework under 24 hours and a new language

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a group, we are proud of accomplishing small but important features on our app. For example, Light/Dark Theme, 400% zoom on websites, and responsive design.

What we learned

We learned a brand new framework and language Flutter and Dart as well as improved our Git and version control skills.

What's next for Car Less

Include games that promote social responsibility and encourage users to be more environmentally conscious. These games include users classifying images of car crashes or other problems that faces cities and governments around the world. The results of these games can be compiled and sent to local law enforcement agencies to aid in developing and training better machine learning models to improve citizen safety.
