Intro

Hey there, my name is Max. I've been a software engineer for last 15 years. The last time I launched my own app was 6-7 years, so I decided to launch something new. Thanks for the contest!

Inspiration

I spent a couple of weeks on a quest for ideas. I even started working on two apps, but I had to throw them in the trash because I realized during development that they probably wouldn’t work. I was about to give up, but then I woke up with a brilliant idea! iOS 26 finally adds a simple button to set up a ringtone without any hassle. I thought this could be a great opportunity to build something around, especially since Eleven Lab is our partner that provides great discounts.

What it does

Ringtone Generator is an app that combines cutting-edge AI technology with thoughtful design to create studio-quality ringtones in seconds — no skills, no hassle, just your ideas turned into sounds. The app creates a one-of-a-kind ringtone for each individual.

How we built it

This project was built in just 4 days using the Cursor CLI and Figma. It’s got 4 parts:

  • Design: The app’s layout was designed in Figma and then converted by AI into SwiftUI code.
  • Backend: A custom backend written in Go that calls Eleven Labs API and OpenAI to rewrite the user’s request to remove all brand, trademark, and copyrighted references while keeping the musical intent. It's deployed on Google Cloud.
  • iOS app: Built in SwiftUI using the Redux architecture pattern.
  • Web landing: Also designed by Figma and then converted into static HTML/JS code.

Challenges we ran into

The toughest part was the Apple review. They rejected the app 6 times for all sorts of bizarre reasons. Fun fact: it took longer to submit the app than it did to design and develop it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The main thing I was impressed by was how quickly this project came together. I was totally blown away by how fast we can build stuff these days with all the cool tools we have.

What we learned

One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is about ASO. I’ve started using a bunch of tools that have helped me a lot, like Astro, AppRadar, and Aso.Dev. I’m still learning and figuring out the best ways to get organic traffic.

What's next for Ringtone Generator

The app is super simple right now, which is probably the best thing about it. But I’m already thinking about what features to add next. First, I’d love to hear from users to see what I’m missing. My top priority is to get more downloads, then convert users to paying customers, and finally, add a ringtone editor.
