The Story

Embark on an electrifying adventure with "Capybara's Veggie Vault," where you guide a laser-eyed capybara through a pixelated world of perilous platforms, treacherous obstacles, and delectable vegetables. Jump, dash, and dodge your way to a high score in this side-scrolling, fast-paced game. Beware of dangerous obstacles, showcase your capybara's laser-eyed prowess, and collect vegetables to boost your score. How long can your capybara navigate the challenges and evade danger? Test your reflexes in this thrilling, endless-scrolling capybara escapade!

Inspiration

I decided to embark on a new and unfamiliar challenge, and Hacklahoma 2024 provided the perfect opportunity to explore the world of game development using unknown languages and frameworks. Drawing inspiration from the theme RetroFuture and the whimsical charm of capybaras, my initial concept evolved into a wild and imaginative project as new ideas and thoughts unfolded.

What it does

If this game was complete, you would be traversing the realm of pixels shooting lasers out of your eyes and chomping on veggies.

Challenges I ran into

Navigating the project solo presented its own set of challenges, especially when delving into unfamiliar languages and frameworks. The task of learning these new technologies within a 24-hour time frame added an extra layer of complexity. Additionally, my desire to craft unique sprites and images led me to tap into my limited artistic skills, as I aimed to create pixelated visuals and bring them together into a cohesive and engaging animation. One of the main challenges was the realization that my ambitions were a little too high, leading to the need to cut off certain aspects of the game in order to produce a working code, even though ultimately I got no where near the finish line.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am delighted to have gained exposure to game development and web development to get an idea as to what it is like and managing to produce at least somewhat working code (although its not that visually pleasing) Despite the game being far from completion, the experience of participating in a hackathon allowed me to push my boundaries and engage in activities beyond my usual scope.

What's next for Capybara's Veggie Vault

Hopefully finishing it (which is implementing about 90% of the rest of the code), and implementing some of my original ideas after that, some of which were jetpacks, collectables, and mushrooms :).
