CAPTTICAT or “Completely Automated Public Turing Test for Incoming Calls and Texts” is a security method that protects wireless and landline phone subscribers from Robocalls and Robotexts.
The method is executed through greeting a caller or a text message sender who is not saved in the user’s contacts list with a user-defined question and matching the received answer with a user-defined acceptable answer for this particular question. This allows to effectively distinguish computer-generated requesters from humans since computers cannot answer a randomly constructed question by a person, e.g. “What is the name of this planet?”, but humans can.
