Inspiration
I started building Captions Bro because I was looking for a video editor that fit the way I wanted to create.
I wanted to record with a teleprompter, edit my footage, and add automatic captions—all in one place. I wanted everything to run locally on my phone, without uploading my videos somewhere just to process them.
That became the idea behind Captions Bro: bring the whole process, from recording to a finished video, into one convenient app.
What it does
Captions Bro brings together a teleprompter, video editing, and automatic captions. You can record what you want to say, cut and arrange your clips, customize your captions, and add your own creative touches before sharing.
Everything runs locally, so your footage stays on your device while you work.
How I built it
I approached the project around the experience I wanted for myself. How would I go from an idea to a recording? What would I need to fix after recording? How could I make the captions look right without spending more time editing them than making the video?
Those questions shaped the app. The work was about making the tools feel connected, so each step naturally leads to the next.
What I learned
I learned that “everything in one place” only helps if everything works well together. Adding features is one part of the job; making them easy to find, understand, and use together takes just as much care.
I also came to appreciate how much small details matter. Keeping your place while editing, adjusting a caption, or getting exactly the video you saw in the preview can make the whole experience feel easier.
Challenges I faced
The biggest challenge was fitting everything I wanted into an app that still felt convenient. More controls can give you more freedom, but they can also get in the way of finishing a video.
Keeping captions, audio, and edits in sync was another challenge, especially as clips were trimmed or rearranged. Running everything locally also meant paying close attention to how smoothly the app worked on a phone.
Captions Bro grew out of a personal need, and that still guides it: I want to open one app, make my video, and have everything I need right there.
