Inspiration

Our team wanted to reimagine how college students manage their financial lives in a way that feels personal, intuitive, and genuinely useful. We noticed that many students struggle to build credit, track spending, and access personalized financial guidance early on. This inspired us to create a solution that empowers young users with tools that meet them where they are and grow with them over time.

What it does

Our product provides students with tailored financial insights, spending recommendations, and a clear path to building credit responsibly. Users can receive personalized savings goals, track monthly spending trends, and understand how everyday decisions affect long-term financial wellness. The interface was designed to be simple, engaging, and supportive so that students can make informed choices with confidence.

How we built it

We began by defining the problem through user interviews, competitor research, and analysis of current banking pain points for students. With this foundation, the Product Manager developed a detailed PRD and success criteria, the Product Designers created high-fidelity Figma prototypes, and the Product Marketing Manager mapped the go-to-market strategy. We iterated through multiple review cycles, incorporating feasibility and user-experience considerations until the end-to-end solution aligned with our vision.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was balancing ambitious ideas with realistic scope. We often had to refine concepts to ensure they could be implemented in a real banking environment. Another challenge was shaping a unified user journey that felt cohesive across research, design, and business strategy. Ensuring that every decision supported both user needs and product goals required continuous alignment within the team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the clarity and depth of our final product vision. The prototype demonstrates both strong usability and a thoughtful understanding of student financial behaviors. We are also proud of how well the team collaborated across roles to produce a polished PRD, refined design flow, and strategic launch plan. The final outcome reflects not only strong individual contributions but also the strength of our collective effort.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned the value of structured cross-functional teamwork. Each role contributed unique insights, and the project improved every time we integrated perspectives from product, design, and marketing. We also gained a deeper understanding of how financial products are shaped from initial research to user experience to market strategy.

What's next for Capital One

Looking ahead, our next steps include expanding the feature set to support long-term financial planning, integrating more advanced personalization models, and testing the experience with larger student groups. Future iterations will focus on refining the product based on direct user feedback and exploring opportunities for broader rollout across student-focused programs. Our vision is to continue building tools that support financial confidence and independence for the next generation of Capital One users.
