Managing money as a student can be overwhelming—credit scores, budgeting, and investing often feel disconnected. Capital One Student Copilot is a GenAI-powered financial mentor that turns every transaction into a learning opportunity.
Built with FastAPI, React, and GPT-4o-mini, the system combines two key layers of intelligence:
a static knowledge base of verified Capital One and CFPB financial education resources, and
a dynamic user snapshot from live account, credit, and investment APIs.
A unified RAG + tool-augmented LLM agent retrieves relevant financial insights, merges them with real user data, and generates grounded, empathetic explanations. The Copilot adapts to four domains—Account, Credit, Investments, and Education—providing personalized advice like credit-score improvement plans, spending analyses, or student-friendly investing tips.
We learned how to design retrieval-augmented systems, fine-tune prompt tone for trust, and integrate real-time analytics under tight latency. Future steps include adding richer Capital One resources, vector-based retrieval, and mobile deployment to create a 24/7 AI financial coach that helps students learn, plan, and grow confidently
