Inspiration

As Capital One clients, this challenge peaked our interest because this purposed feature is something that we would personally use. We took inspiration from apps that kept track of your finances like RocketMoney.

What it does

Our app notifies users when they have a subscription that they have not used in 3 months. It also allows users the ability to keep track of their subscriptions and the amount that they are paying.

How we built it

We are a team of only UX/UI designers, unfortunately we were unable to secure two developers to build the app. We made our functioning prototype through Figma. When designing our app we started off with sketching our low-fidelity wireframes to gauge what direction we wanted to go with the feature. After we started to finalize the design with our mid-fidelity wireframe and then finally adding the UI components in our final prototype.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into two challenges during ShellHack. We struggled with communication with our other two team members who ,unfortunately, did not continue with us on our journey. Our second challenge, was in regards to what direction we would take the users when it came to them canceling a subscription. We discussed whether we should have the user stay in the Capital One app to cancel or whether the app should send them to whatever location they needed to go to cancel their subscription. While keeping the user in Capital One's app is best practice, we considered the chances of the user not remembering their log-in information for any other app (especially if they are not using it often). We were concerned that having to remember their username and password for another app, that they more than likely are already logged into on their device, would frustrate the user and make it more likely that they would not continue with the user flow.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the project we were able to put out considering our small team and the bumps we had along the way. Though we were not able to have a fully coded app we are happy with the outcome and what we were able to present with Figma.

What we learned

We learned new best practices, new skills in UI design on Figma, and how to communicate remotely.

What's next for Capital One’s Streaming Subscription Management Challenge

Our next goal for this feature would be to add a graph that shows the user their overall spending so that they can see what it looks like in comparison to their subscriptions to better allow them to budget.
