Inspiration
Edu-Credit was inspired by our collective experiences as students with financial uncertainty and the challenges we faced in navigating the world of personal finance. As a group, we have personally encountered situations where a lack of financial literacy led to confusion and stress, whether it was managing debt, choosing the right credit card, or understanding credit scores. We realised that many individuals find themselves in similar positions, feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of financial concepts.
Recognising this gap in accessible, beginner-friendly resources, we were motivated to create a platform that empowers users with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed financial decisions. Edu-Credit aims to be a supportive resource for those who, like us, are seeking clarity and guidance in their financial journeys. Through our platform, we hope to equip users with the tools they need to achieve financial confidence and security.
What it does
Edu-Credit serves as an educational platform dedicated to enhancing financial literacy. The website offers a variety of resources, including:
- Debt Management: Practical strategies for managing and reducing debt effectively.
- Credit Card Education: Insights into choosing the right credit card and understanding interest rates, fees, and rewards.
- Understanding Credit Scores: A detailed breakdown of credit scores, their importance, and tips for improving them.
- Credit Basics: Foundational knowledge about credit, including types of credit, how credit works, and the implications of credit misuse
How we built it
Edu-Credit was developed using React.js to create an interactive, user-friendly interface. We leveraged static content and API integrations to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information, removing the need for a complex backend.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was designing a platform that simplifies complex financial topics while remaining thorough and accurate. Building an intuitive AI feedback mechanism entirely on the front end required careful optimisation to deliver fast and personalised responses. We also worked hard to create a visually engaging interface that maintains simplicity, making it easy for beginners to navigate. Ensuring accessibility for users of all backgrounds added another layer of design complexity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to have created a robust financial literacy platform that is both comprehensive and approachable. The AI-driven feedback feature stands out, as it provides users with insightful advice based on their learning progress, adding a personal touch. Additionally, our focus on UI/UX design resulted in a visually appealing, easy-to-navigate platform that makes financial concepts accessible to beginners and enjoyable for all.
What we learned
Building Edu-Credit taught us valuable lessons in user-centered design and the importance of clarity in educational content. We learned how to structure interactive modules effectively, focusing on user engagement without sacrificing responsiveness. This project underscored the need for accessible design and intuitive layout in creating an educational platform.
What's next for Capital One's Edu-Credit
Moving forward, we plan to expand Edu-Credit’s resources by adding in-depth courses and additional financial tools, like budgeting guides and goal trackers.
