Inspiration
Our team comes from families of immigrants and understands the unique financial challenges that Hispanic families, and many others, face. This personal experience motivated us to create a solution that helps people navigate financial literacy in a way that's accessible to all.
What it does
Capital Literacy provides an intuitive financial literacy experience, allowing users to create budgets and access educational resources. It supports multiple language options, including Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese. We’ve also integrated a chatbot called Uno, which assists users with any questions they may have about the app’s resources.
How we built it
We developed the app using React for the front end and SQL for the database. Additionally, we incorporated translation frameworks like i18n and leveraged APIs, including ChatGPT, to enhance the chatbot functionality.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was working with new APIs, such as ChatGPT, and implementing translation frameworks like i18n to ensure the app was accessible in multiple languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of planning out all the features and successfully completing the project by the end of the hackathon. Our team worked hard to deliver a polished product that addresses a real-world need.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we learned valuable skills in React and full-stack development, including setting up a database and creating an API to connect to it. We also gained experience with integrating translation frameworks and chatbot functionalities.
What's next for Capital Literacy
Looking ahead, we plan to add support for more languages and expand the number of financial resources available to impact more communities across the globe.
