Inspiration

“Girl math” stems from the idea that girls are not good with math or finance. Our app aims to tackle the gender gap in financial literacy and education by making it into an adventure word game inspired by the popular New York Times game Wordle. We recognized the importance of making financial education engaging and accessible, so we made learning about finance into an exciting adventure.

What it does

Our project is an interactive financial learning platform that gamifies the process of acquiring financial literacy. Users explore "kingdoms," each representing a different aspect of finance, such as investments, banking, and stocks. Within these kingdoms, they encounter word puzzles and challenges related to financial terms. By successfully completing these tasks, users unlock valuable insights and resources to enhance their understanding of finance.

How we built it

We built our project using a combination of React for the frontend, Vite for the server, and Supabase for the database. Procreate and Figma were utilized for graphic design, creating visually appealing elements to enhance the user experience. Our team collaborated closely, leveraging each member's strengths to develop and test the platform iteratively. Feedback was incorporated throughout the process to ensure a polished and user-friendly experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was finding the right balance between gamification and educational content. Integrating complex financial concepts into engaging puzzles proved to be a daunting task. Additionally, connecting the backend to the frontend posed technical challenges, particularly in fetching and managing data from Supabase. Despite these obstacles, we persevered through collaboration and problem-solving to overcome these challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a platform that successfully merges entertainment with education, making financial literacy accessible and enjoyable for users. The development process allowed us to hone our skills in both finance and web development, resulting in a polished and engaging product. Additionally, overcoming technical challenges and implementing innovative solutions demonstrated our team's creativity.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained valuable insights into finance, game design, and collaborative development. Researching financial concepts deepened our understanding of economics and investment strategies. Designing interactive elements taught us about user engagement and interface design. Most importantly, we learned the significance of teamwork and perseverance in overcoming challenges and achieving our goals.

What's next for capital letters

In the future, we aim to expand our platform with additional features and content. This includes introducing new kingdoms and puzzles to cover a broader range of financial topics. We also plan to incorporate interactive tutorials and quizzes to provide users with a comprehensive learning experience. With continued development and feedback, we envision our platform becoming a go-to resource for individuals seeking to improve their financial literacy.
