Inspiration
How good of a studier are you? How focused are you? Are you locked in? Are you the most locked in? Time to find out!! 😈
We created CapCap because we were tired of sitting in the IKB at noon and leaving six hours later with nothing done (questioning why we were even here). CapCap was made in efforts to encourage focused, locked-in activity when trying to study by keeping it real with how much time you ACTUALLY spent studying rather than how much time you thought you were studying.
What it does
CapCap uses Python and OpenCV to detect whether you’re locked in at the task at hand (looking at your computer or not). If you’re distracted, an angry capybara appears with a warning to lock back in. Depending on how many times you look away and how long you study for, you can rank yourself amongst your friends to catch the slacker frfr.
How we built it
We primarily used Python, HTML and Flask, alongside a variety of libraries including bcyrpt, and SQLAlchemy.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into today was trying to integrate different versions of our code, getting our front and back end to work together, downloading all the libraries we needed and general just, git 🧍.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the fact that our project actually works and that we have something to present today! Smaller wins from the day include the integration of the front-end (even though it's incomplete), the cutesy ui design and all the ideas and decisions we’ve made today to make CapCap.
What we learned
First of all, git can be hard and painful 🙁. We also learnt how to integrate computer vision and manipulate the model to improve accuracy, and add sound effects. In addition, we learned how to style html in a flask environment and create functional figma prototypes.
What's next for CapCap
In the future we are hoping to finish the front-end of CapCap and have a fully functional UI. We are also hoping to add on other features that can encourage good life habits. For example, tracking how much water you drink when you are working.
