Inspiration
Many of our grandparents and elderly family members live far away, often in different countries. Even those who live with their children don’t always receive the consistent health support and attention they need. This is something we want to change.
Our goal is to bring back a true sense of community—one where people look out for one another. By connecting trusted community members with elderly individuals, we can create a support system that ensures they are cared for, checked in on, and never feel alone.
At the same time, we want to give their children peace of mind. Knowing that their loved ones are supported by a reliable, caring network allows them to focus on their own responsibilities without constant worry.
What it does
CapableCare is a platform that matches community members with elderly individuals looking for support. The end users include the caretaker and the family of the customer.
How we built it
We used Next.js for frontend and Supabase for auth, database, and backend logic. We utilized Codex for code reviews and boilerplate code.
Challenges we ran into
We were having trouble with rebasing code on git and incorporating ElevenLabs voice feature. However, we were able to get around it by debugging with Codex.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud of our abilities surrounding prompt engineering and embracing new technologies including Supabase, Codex, ElevenLabs, and 21stDev. We incorporate chatbots, calendars, and ui components to make the general navigation of our pages seamless. We utilized Gemini Lab and ElevenLabs APIs for the chatbot feature specifically involving speech and text.
What we learned
This was the first hackathon and project in general where we had to design, implement, and test a major application. This was in itself a massive undertaking. We learned to navigate this process efficiently and by embracing new technologies like Codex.
Moreover, we experienced many bugs, errors, and feature discrepancies in the last two hours of the hackathon and were racing against the clock to fix them. We took a step back and solved these lingering issues relatively quickly.
What's next for CapableCare
Deploying it and testing it with small-scale communities that involve caretakers. We also want to run the subscription models by the communities to see willingness on prices and services.
