Inspiration
With the internet and digital platforms becoming an integral part of lives, connection and social interaction is more important than ever. One of the easiest ways to connect with people is through music. We created Cantus to make it easier for people to do so. Through Cantus, users can find individuals with similar music taste and opinions as them.
What it does
Our website, Cantus, is an online social cataloging platform created to unite music lovers around the world. Through Cantus, users can review various music albums, like other users’ reviews, and get music recommendations.
How we built it
In order to create our website, we used Visual Studio Code as our code editor. We used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python as the primary coding languages. We used HTML to structure our webpage and it’s content, CSS to give our website the look we wanted, JavaScript for the feature to like other users’ posts, and Python to implement a machine learning model that recommends users various albums.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was storing our users’ profile information. We had no past experience doing this and struggled to find a way to do so under a time constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our machine learning model that recommends users albums based on their listening activity.
What we learned
We learned how to use HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create a website.
What's next for Cantus
In the future, we want to learn how to store user’s profile information, give our website a cleaner look, and implement more features such as a way for users to keep track of albums they want to listen to in the future.
