Inspiration
In my neighborhood, there are several senior citizens that post requests for aides on apps such as Nextdoor and Facebook pretty much daily. A lot of the time, their posts are buried under other discussions or ignored.
What it does
Cane is a mobile app that allows senior citizens to connect to the targeted caregiver community, either through home care agencies or individuals. They can either post their request or browse services and available agencies/caregivers. Caregivers on the app can accept requests in their area, which puts them in contact with the senior citizen, or browse PCA/HHA job listings found on other career opportunity websites.
How we built it
I used Figma to create a mockup of the app.
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time creating a project in Figma, so there was a learning curve and I had to get used to the different features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of coming up with an idea that, if implemented, could benefit millions of elderly people in the US.
What we learned
I learned a lot about the process to becoming a caregiver and how the industry works.
What's next for Cane
Making it into a real app and expanding beyond healthcare (ie. requests for shopping, taking care of pets, etc). I could also provide resources on the app that tell the user exactly what healthcare services they're eligible for (instead of them having to go out and find that information for themselves).
