Inspiration
The inspiration we received for our project was from Halloween itself. We all knew that everybody loves candy and we knew that nobody really payed attention to what was healthy and what was not. So we wanted to take that issue and bring it to life with a GUI. We all though of the times when we were eating candy and we wished we knew which ones could actually be healthy and better against those that are bad.
What it does
Our project takes the issue of candy and unhealthiness and brings it to life. We have created a GUI that allows the user to select a general type of candy like "Chocolate" and then it logs the type of candy. We then prompt the user to select a specific type of candy similar to their overarching idea. So, in the idea of chocolate, you could chose "Twix." Our solution then provides the user with a picture of the type of candy and then provides them the nutritional value besides the picture of the candy. We wanted to give the user the chance to see what the candy offers without even having to search themselves for the nutritional value, because most of us knew, candy does not really have the nutritional value written on it in depth.
How we built it
We built this project by using Python, mainly through Visual Studio Code and we used GitHub to push all of our code up and work collaboratively.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges with GitHub and Python itself. But, we worked together to solve this many issues. Using our teams brains, hard work, dedication, python books, and Stack Overflow, we were able to charge through our problems and build something that we liked, and might even chose to expand upon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud with how we have our project up on GitHub, how we have many functions in our Python code, and how we like our idea of trying to provide people with the nutritional value of candy. We are very proud of the way our project turned out because we know the long hours that took into making this and the long time it to trouble shooting and designing.
What we learned
We learned how to better use While loops, For loops, GitHub, and to work collaboratively. We all worked very well together, bounced ideas off one another, built the project as a team, and never stopped communicating. We all worked so well together, that we all walked away learning something new and something amazing that we hope to us in future hackathons.
What's next for Candy Picker
The future for Candy Picker is the idea to spread our project much bigger using Data bases of the candies and of different information about them. We want to take our base idea and spread it even further, even to the point were it can take in new candies that the user inputs and try to find the nutritional value for the user to see. We want to make it so everybody can see the nutritional value of a piece of candy easily and make it all accessible.
