Candy Challenge

🍬Inspiration

In our daily lives, we realized that sometimes we lack the motivation and self-discipline to get our plans done (e.g. exercise plan). One of the main reasons is that no one is keeping us accountable, meaning people could easily give up halfway. Furthermore, with the influence of Covid-19 on the world, there has become less and less opportunities for people to socially connect. This inspired us to create our application - Candy Challenge.

🍬What it does

Our application provides a unique solution which enables people to get in touch with one another through conquering challenges together. Candy challenge is a social network and productivity platform where users can interact with each other by creating/joining and completing challenges together. Every time users complete a challenge, they will be awarded 🍭candies which they can use for exchanging products in the real life, such as gift cards, vouchers, etc.

🍬How we built it

We firstly used Figma to design the user interface and create a prototype of all the pages in the app, which gave us a clear picture of the user flow. It also made it easier to do the frontend via HTML, CSS and Javascript. We decided to learn and use Firebase as the database to store user's information, as a backend as a service and for the deployment of our website which saved us a lot of time.

🍬Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the idea we came up with, and the product we actually built, considering most of us started this hackathon with barely any basic HTML and CSS knowledge. We were dedicated to getting the most out of this hackathon, building our project through watching many online tutorials, doing a lot of research on Google and actively sharing our programming knowledge with each teammate. In the end, although we lost a little sleep, we gained so much information and experience with webdev from this project. We hope that when life seems to be getting mundane, our application sparks a little fun and sweetness in your life ❤

I design the prototype of this application with Joanna, and worked with the frontend with all of our teammates.
The summary pdf and the video are also produced by me.
I became more familiar to html and css, and I learnt how to use figma for prototyping, too. I earnt a lot from this event, not only technical skills, but also the way of team development and design.
