Inspiration
We wanted to improve individuals autonomy and understanding of how their environment impacts their health.
What it does
Provides a cancer rate/100k people in each state, and compares it to the rate of the nation.
How we built it
We used DigitalOcean to construct the platform.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble downloading the API's, and some of the data sets didn't download correctly, which set us back. We also struggled with getting the program to quickly respond to user input, given the large data set.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got the data processing to work correctly.
What we learned
We learned more about GitHub and DigitalOcean's different features. We also learned more about data parsing, and implementing APIs.
What's next for CancerCompass
We hope to expand it's functionality to a smaller level than just a state, including cities and towns.
