Three of us were looking for something in the FinTech field and have noticed that there were lots of traction lately in the cashback industry. Rather than building something similar, we took an innovative approach to draw down the entire supply chain in consumer purchases to gain inspiration. We have noticed that most companies offer consumers the price adjustment guarantee which is a policy that promises to refund the difference between the discount after their purchase. Therefore, we decided to work on a consumer retail price analysis tools to help with this idea.
What it does
Due to the limited time we have, we decided to break this big idea into separate projects. The key focus we had was 1) a front-end demo for our consumer users, 2) a backend scraper for the selected site, root.com, 3) research regarding this industry to backend our finding and beliefs.
How I built it
Python for building the backend, regarding the scraper and Google logins
SQL for writing Databases which is being hosted locally
CSS, Javascript and HTML for the front-end
Challenges I ran into
We don't have a front-end developer which took us more time to develop the front-end of the demo through CSS and HTML. We thought of using a mop-up app instead, however, due to our limited experience on it, we have a better bet with CSS, Javascript, and HTML.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are surprised that we actually were able to finish it overnight, wasn't expected to have that much done.
Overnight we scraped 500 items from 3 different retails, our goal is to build something that automatically scraps the retailer's all available online product.
What I learned
I learned to work in a team, being able to complete your task on time so the next person can help out.
What's next for KaChing
We will try to complete the rest of the function that is missing which there is still a lot and each is its own beast.
