Inspiration

We were planning to reuse something and make it musical and we thought of Waste Juice Cans to make it magically musical. We are fond of music and care for the environment too. So, we decided to make Can-Sic which follows the principle of 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle).

What it does

Our project consist of Juice cans through which we can play any musical instrument we like with the help of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

We can play piano, drums, cajon, Madal, String Guitar etc. via interfacing our device with DAW like FL Studio, Studio One, Garage Band, Pro Tools or any DAW software the user is familiar with.

How we built it

First of all, we programmed Arduino Leonardo with MPR 121 to capture the capacitance of user then after the test was successful we wired up the cans with the help of alligator clips and interfaced it with Fl Studio which is an DAW software and inside it we mapped the keys of the DAW MIDI to our cans and then we were able to play the music we wanted with the help of those cans.

Challenges we ran into

Since time was short and we both were employed at office , there was not enough resources and time for us but we managed to accomplish this project and we solved the problem of lagging issue with Juice can while playing music.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we could reuse cans and made it something productive. We picked up waste cans from our environment and now it is one of the precious thing on our room that we care so much. We would surely do Jamming with these things on future.

What we learned

We learned a lot during this project. We learnt to use the Software Fl Studio very well enough to accomplish this project and program Arduino for mapping keys to Fl Studio. Moreover, we also learnt a valuable lesson that nothing is waste and useless just we have to think creatively to make it productive for us.

What's next for Can-Sic

By time limitations, we couldn't work on software part but we wanted to make an browser based software that shows notation of songs and user could learn that song with the help of that browser based software.
