💡 Inspiration

Scanning documents often requires paid subscriptions or expensive software. We wanted to build a lightweight, open-source document scanner utility that provides professional auto-cropping, edge detection, and OCR features without paywalls.

⚙️ What it does

• Automatic Edge Detection: Identifies document borders in real-time and applies perspective transformation.
• Image Enhancement: Removes shadows, cleans up background noise, and sharpens text for high contrast.
• OCR Text Extraction: Scans printed and handwritten text to generate editable text files.
• PDF & Batch Export: Converts multiple image scans into organized PDF documents.

🛠️ How we built it

• Computer Vision: OpenCV for image processing, contour detection, and perspective warping.
• OCR Engine: Tesseract OCR / Deep Learning model for multilingual text extraction.
• Frontend / UI: Built using Flutter/React for cross-platform desktop and mobile support.

🚀 Challenges we ran into

Handling uneven lighting conditions and curved document pages was a major challenge. We optimized edge-detection algorithms to filter out background noise effectively.

📈 What's next for CamScanner Engine

• Cloud storage integration (Google Drive / Dropbox).
• Enhanced handwriting recognition model.
• Offline batch PDF compression.
