Inspiration## Inspiration

CampusSOS was inspired by a simple problem: students may face campus issues, safety concerns, or lost belongings but may not always know where or how to report them. We wanted to create one simple platform where students can quickly find support and report common campus problems.

What We Built

CampusSOS is a beginner-friendly campus safety and support platform with:

  • 🚨 Emergency guidance for medical and safety situations
  • 🏫 Campus issue reporting for electrical, infrastructure, sanitation, water, and other issues
  • 📋 Report tracking using a unique report ID
  • 🎒 Lost & Found reporting and item listing
  • 📞 Emergency contact guidance
  • 📱 A mobile-friendly interface

How We Built It

We built CampusSOS using Python, Flask, SQLite, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Flask handles the backend and connects the web interface to a local SQLite database. SQLite stores campus reports and Lost & Found submissions. JavaScript handles form submission, report tracking, emergency guidance, and updating the interface without requiring a page reload.

What We Learned

While building CampusSOS, we learned how a frontend can communicate with a backend, how to store and retrieve data using SQLite, how Flask routes work, and how to build a simple responsive web interface.

We also learned the importance of testing each feature individually and making the interface easy for users to understand.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was connecting the different features together while keeping the project simple and beginner-friendly. We also had to debug database operations, report ID tracking, Lost & Found data persistence, and mobile responsiveness.

By solving these challenges step by step, we were able to turn the initial idea into a working prototype.

Future Improvements

In the future, CampusSOS could be extended with real-time notifications, administrator dashboards, photo uploads for reports and Lost & Found items, and integration with official campus emergency contacts.
