Inspiration
Students encounter scholarships, internships, hackathons, and fellowships across many different platforms. Finding relevant opportunities takes time, and understanding eligibility requirements can be just as challenging. I wanted to build a tool that makes opportunity discovery more focused and helps students identify options that align with their academic background, level of study, and skills.
What it does
CampusPulse AI is a student opportunity-discovery platform that helps users explore scholarships, internships, hackathons, and fellowships. It matches opportunities against student profiles using rule-based criteria and presents relevant results with source links and clear eligibility gaps, helping users decide which opportunities deserve further investigation.
How we built it
CampusPulse AI was built using React, TypeScript, and Vite. Its matching system uses deterministic, rule-based logic to compare student information with opportunity requirements. The interface is designed to make opportunity discovery straightforward, with an emphasis on clear information, useful matching results, and access to original sources.
Challenges
One of the main challenges was translating student information and opportunity requirements into useful matching criteria. A recommendation system needs to do more than display opportunities: it should help users understand why an opportunity may be relevant and where they may not meet its stated requirements. Another challenge was building a clear, responsive interface while keeping the application lightweight and maintaining a reliable development and testing workflow.
What we learned
Building CampusPulse AI reinforced the importance of designing around a real user problem, separating interface design from matching logic, and validating functionality through testing. It also highlighted the importance of being transparent about how recommendations are produced and giving users access to original opportunity sources so they can verify details themselves.
What's next
CampusPulse AI is a foundation for making student opportunity discovery more accessible and organized. Future improvements could include a broader, regularly updated opportunity catalogue, richer filtering, and more personalized matching, while continuing to prioritize transparent eligibility information and reliable source links.
