Inspiration

College students often struggle to manage attendance, exam preparation, assignments, reminders, and campus announcements across different platforms. We wanted to build one intelligent companion that makes student life more organized and less stressful.

What it does

CampusMate AI is an intelligent campus and study companion with a voice-based assistant. Its key features include attendance tracking with a “What If I Bunk?” simulator, an adaptive exam study planner, task and reminder management, exam and timetable information, and a unified campus updates inbox.

The voice assistant supports English, Hindi, and Gujarati speech interaction. The application also includes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes student-focused tools for attendance, study planning, reminders, and campus updates.

How we built it

We used React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express to build the application. The backend provides APIs for attendance calculations, study planning, tasks, reminders, and campus updates. Google Gemini API is used for AI-powered voice assistant reasoning, while browser speech recognition and speech synthesis enable voice interaction. The MCP server exposes tools through JSON-RPC and Streamable HTTP.

Challenges and learning

A major challenge was connecting the voice assistant with backend actions and keeping attendance calculations accurate. We also worked on designing an adaptive study planner and exposing application features through MCP tools. This project helped us explore AI integration, backend API development, voice interfaces, and agent-tool communication.

Impact

CampusMate AI aims to help students make better academic decisions, prepare for exams more effectively, and manage their college responsibilities from one place.
